Waking up at 3am

There was a period of time during my “spiritual awakening” (circa 2007) in which I was waking up every morning at 3am with what seemed to be a type of “download”, a release or a processing of trauma, which happened 11 years prior. I had a tablet next to my bed and immediately after waking up I had urges to write and started writing uncontrollably, like something was working through me. My hand was writing so fast that I wasn’t even thinking about it, it was just flowing through me. If I wasn’t writing on a tablet, I was writing on the computer. This was the start of an amazing healing period in my life filled with such love, joy and having extremely high energy. A period where I felt I was being directed by God or a higher power, the places I went, the people I met, the miraculous events happening daily. Incredible synchronicity’s happening, more on that later.

Carl Jung (Swiss psychiatrist and psychotherapist) viewed synchronicities as meaningful coincidences that cannot be explained by cause and effect but hold deep personal or symbolic significance. He believed these events occur when inner psychological states align with external occurrences in a way that feels profoundly connected. For Jung, synchronicities were not random; they were moments where the unconscious mind intersects with the external world, often pointing to a deeper truth or a need for transformation in the individual’s life.

Yet waking up at 3 a.m. consistently can have various causes, often related to physical, emotional, or spiritual factors.

1.Biological reasons: The body’s natural sleep cycle may be disrupted due to factors such as stress, age-related sleep changes, or fluctuating cortisol levels. This time often corresponds to a lighter stage of sleep, when you’re more susceptible to waking. Additionally, issues like blood sugar drops, dehydration, or needing to use the restroom can interrupt sleep.

2.Stress and emotional factors: Waking at this hour is sometimes linked to overactive stress responses or anxiety, as the quiet hours of the night may amplify unresolved worries or emotional tension. If you’re processing significant life events or experiencing suppressed emotions, they could manifest as mid-sleep disruptions.

3.Spiritual interpretations: Many spiritual traditions associate waking between 3 and 5 a.m. with introspection or a sign of deeper awareness. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, 3 a.m. is linked to the liver, which governs emotional processing and detoxification. Spiritually, it’s sometimes considered a moment of alignment with higher consciousness or an invitation for inner reflection.

Are you experiencing stress, health changes, or a sense of inner restlessness lately?
